Googol GLaDOS 2.0 Voice Tutorial

TL;DR - How to emulate the voices of GLaDOS et al.

UPDATE:

Since this post was made, AT&T Labs have discontinued their AT&T Natural Voices® Text-to-Speech Demo page as they have been acquired by another company. This means that some of the voices which depend on the TTS Demo will not work. Unless I can find a suitable alternative, this tutorial will not be updated.

TL;DR: Some Text to Speech voices will not work.

If you have found an alternative, please contact me so I can update the tutorial.

If you have come here for the animation of Googol GLaDOS, I encourage you to watch it before you continue.

If you’re here to see how the voices were made…

  1. This is an updated tutorial from the gist and coderwall versions. The original version is archived at the wayback machine

  2. Unfortunately this voice does not work since it depends on this TTS demo page. (Except for those who have a Mac)
